In healing stone lore, Larimar is also known as the Atlantis Stone. Its only occurrence in its blue colors to this day is the Dominican Republic.
According to legend, Larimar is said to be connected to the lost paradise. It is believed that Larimar is the only remaining testimony of the fabled island of Atlantis.
Larimar symbolizes boundlessness. Its colors are those of the endless sky and the vast sea. It has been worn since ancient times as a protective stone against evil spirits, natural disasters, and illnesses. Many things are attributed to this stone; among other things, Larimar is said to open new paths in thinking and acting and to serve self-realization.
Due to its high calcium content, it is also said to have a strengthening effect on bones and growth. Larimar is a very popular and attractive gemstone, used for necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pendants, and bangles. It is very valuable because it has become almost depleted and thus very rare.
